To Spread Linux Usage In South Jersey —CHLUG Mission Statement
There’s no better way to learn about Linux and meet like-minded Linux users in South Jersey than to come to a regular meeting of the Cherry Hill Linux Users Group (CHLUG). Bring your laptop and we’ll help you diagnose and fix your problems—or bring just your enthusiasm and we’ll chat about Linux long into the night.
To get involved, please subscribe to our Google Groups Cherry Hill LUG Mailing List. Feel free to spend a few weeks just observing our friendly community before coming out to one of our regular meetings. You can also meet with us on our IRC channel: #chlug on irc.freenode.net.
There are no membership fees or mandatory costs of any kind, although we do ask for donations when we rent a meeting room at a local library. Anyone interested in Linux is welcome to join us and proudly call themselves a CHLUG member.
We’re currently between permanent meeting locations, so pay attention to the location listed in meeting announcements. Our most recent meeting spots include the Jersey Java coffee shop and the ?Voorhees Public Library.
If you have any questions, the best place to ask them is on the public mailing list linked above, but confidential inquires can be directed to Dave Harding, dave@dtrt.org, who will try to forward them to the appropriate person.
About This Webpage
The Cherry Hill Linux Users Group was on hiatus between June 2009 and January 2011, during which the domain name registration for CHLUG.org lapsed. The site is now owned by an anonymous third-party so this webpage was quickly put together to provide information to prospective CHLUG members. Using the Internet Archive’s Way Back Machine, you can still read the old CHLUG website.
This page is hosted on a publicly-editable wiki. If you see any information that is out of date, please feel free to edit it yourself using the link at the top of the page—or send an email to dave@dtrt.org.
Other Local Linux User Groups
User groups are disappearing all across New Jersey (and perhaps the United States), but several groups of interest continue to meet regularly:
The Philadelphia Linux Users Group (PLUG) meets several times a month in different locations, some just across the river from CHLUG.
The Linux Users Group In Princeton (LUG/IP) meets in Lawrenceville, about an hour north of CHLUG. A 501(c)3 registered non-profit, LUG/IP and CHLUG members have a long history of working together. The group runs a monthly meeting and monthly “coffee klatch” plus irregular events.
The North Jersey Linux User Group meets monthly in Hackensack, almost two hours north of Cherry Hill. Considering the inconveniently large distance between our groups, we rarely get to work with our northern neighbors, but we have heard that they’re a lot of fun.
All three groups listed above also have IRC chatrooms as described on the websites linked above.
